In Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine which began in 2022, the invaders today sustained their millionth casualty.
Of course, the science of such tabulations is not exact: this is a Ukrainian estimate. But after low-balling Russian casualty estimates for several years, the UK ministry of defence now shares Ukraine’s assessment, proving once again that Kyiv should never be under-estimated — and tracks Russian losses better than allies.
Of these million Russian soldiers – almost exclusively men – about 300,000 are dead, the rest wounded and unable to fight.
